On 19th January, learners from Bude Class at The Stable School in Christchurch, Dorset visited Christchurch Priory as part of their learning around places of worship and cultural understanding.
The visit provided learners with the opportunity to explore the Priory as a significant local landmark and place of worship, helping to develop their understanding of different beliefs, traditions and the role such spaces play within the wider community. Experiences outside the classroom are carefully planned at The Stable School to ensure they are accessible, meaningful and supportive of individual learning needs.
During the visit, learners were able to observe the architecture, explore the peaceful environment and engage in discussion about the purpose of the Priory, supporting areas of learning such as communication, social development and respect for others. The experience also encouraged curiosity and thoughtful reflection in a calm, real-world setting.
Denise Carpenter, Principal of The Stable School, said:
“Visits like this are a valuable way for our learners to build cultural understanding in a real and meaningful context. Exploring Christchurch Priory allowed learners to ask questions, make connections and experience a place of worship in a supportive and inclusive way.”
The visit forms part of The Stable School’s wider approach to enrichment and community-based learning, supporting learners to broaden their experiences and understanding of the world around them.
