DIVE Bushcraft Session at St Catherine’s Hill Inspires Outdoor Learning

Learners at The Stable School enjoyed an enriching and hands-on outdoor experience on Friday 20th March as part of the school’s DIVE (Develop, Inspire, Value, Empower) activities.

The bushcraft group spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful surroundings of St Catherine’s Hill, where they engaged in a variety of nature-based activities designed to support wellbeing, teamwork and practical life skills.

The session included creative arts and crafts, where learners made fish-inspired designs using natural materials, alongside animal track finding, encouraging curiosity and observation of the local environment. The group also took part in a litter pick, helping to care for the local area while developing a sense of responsibility and community pride.

These outdoor experiences form a key part of The Stable School’s approach to supporting learners with special educational needs, providing opportunities to build confidence, resilience and independence beyond the classroom.

Denise Carpenter, Principal of The Stable School, said:

“Our DIVE activities are an important part of our curriculum, giving learners the opportunity to connect with the outdoors, develop practical skills and build confidence in a supportive environment. It was fantastic to see our learners so engaged at St Catherine’s Hill, showing creativity, teamwork and a real sense of pride in looking after their local environment.”
